摘要:Two articles from two difierent statutes of the State of Wei(魏)as appendix.

(Translated by A.F.P. Hulsewe)

Translator’s Note: This group, consisting of two articles from two difierent statutes of the State of Wei(魏)is not entered as a separate group in the Chinese publicationsbe-cause these rules are found rather unexpectedly as an appendix to the collection of moralizing prose-pieces, which the editors have calledHow to be a good official”,Wei li chih tao(為吏之道),this being the first phrase of the collectionThese two laws are followed again by another appendixvizsome proverbial sayings (see myChin documents”,P185)The rules are written in the fifth or lowest register of strips 1628 (for the organization of the writing on these strips seeCh'in documents”,P183)The complete strips have a length of 27.5 cmor 1 ft2 inCh'in-Han measureFrom stains on most of the strips it is clear that they were held together by three sets of stringsclose to the top and the bottomand in the middleFaint horizontal knife scratches over each of the five rubrics showthat the strips had been prepared before they received the writing. The whole set of fifty-one strips was found lying across the thighs of the corpse
